Our Legacy

Jim Ellis Cadillac wouldn’t be here without our namesake and founder, Jim Ellis, and his constant pursuit of finding his place in the world. Raised on the grounds of the Atlanta Prison Farm, Jim spent his childhood working on the farm, learning the value of hard work firsthand. He eventually had milk, paper, and laundry routes, ran a concessions store at Grant Park, and even tried his hand at construction before he enrolled at West Georgia College.

After earning his Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus on management in 1957, he was already a highly skilled professional. He paid his way through college by working as a salesman, real estate agent, prison guard, and foreman. His work ethic was unparalleled, a trait that served him well during his two-year service with the United State Army and again when he finally found his calling in the automotive industry.

Jim discovered his passion for automobiles when he was hired by General Motors. He spent a decade learning the ropes, recognizing a critical need to improve the dealership experience. By 1970, Jim and his wife, Billie, took a huge leap of faith, sold everything they owned, and poured every penny into opening their first dealership. By 1971, Jim brought his dream to life when he opened Jim Ellis Volkswagen, the cornerstone for what would become the award-winning Jim Ellis Automotive Group we know today.

As the business expanded, Jim never lost sight of his original vision to deliver a new type of car-buying and owning experience. He operated his dealerships with a family-friendly approach, welcoming every customer into the Jim Ellis family by building meaningful, lasting relationships. Today, Jim Ellis Cadillac is honored to continue that legacy and vision by offering an award-winning customer experience where everyone is family and every experience is defined by integrity, respect, and transparency.
