Not only that, but getting better fuel efficiency is ideal for the pocketbook.
When comparing the XT6 to the Aviator, it’s important to first understand that the XT6 has front-wheel drive as standard for its Luxury and Premium Luxury trims, with all-wheel drive available, whereas the top-tier Sport trim strictly comes in all-wheel drive. For the Aviator, your choices are rear- or all-wheel drive. Additionally, it should be noted that the XT6 has a 22-gallon fuel tank while the Aviator has a 20.2-gallon tank; this is significant when you realize that the XT6 also has better fuel efficiency.
The 2024 Cadillac XT6 with front-wheel drive and the base 2.0L Turbo four-cylinder engine gets a fuel economy of 21 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway, for a combined 23 MPG. With front-wheel drive and the 3.6L V6 engine of the upper trims, the XT6’s fuel economy goes down slightly to 19 MPG in the city, but that still beats the 18 MPG in the city that the 2024 Lincoln Aviator gets with its 3.0L Turbo V6. On the highway, the two V6 engines tie at 26 MPG.
When looking at the all-wheel drive versions of the two, the XT6 comes out on top again, with 21 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway in the 2.0L Turbo I-4; its 3.6L V6 gets 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway, while the Aviator’s 3.0L V6 provides a lesser 17 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. Another thing to consider is that the XT6 offers a variety of engine options, whereas the Aviator only has one, as it dropped its hybrid powertrain option for this model year.
Cargo Capacity
Another trait high on the priority list—and the reason many drivers choose an SUV over other types of vehicles—is cargo capacity. Whether your cargo space is loaded with soccer gear for the kids or luggage for a long weekend, knowing you have the capacity to haul whatever you need is vital. Not only that, but you also need that cargo space to be flexible, with second and third rows that fold down with just the push of a button. Both SUVs get high marks for easy access, but which one has the better capacity?
The answer is the XT6. When choosing this three-row Cadillac SUV, you’ll get 78.7 cu.ft. of cargo space with both the second and third rows folded down, narrowly beating the Aviator’s 77.7 cu.ft. of space. The XT6 wins again with just the third row folded down, giving you 43.1 cu.ft. compared to the Aviator’s 41.8 cu.ft. However, the Aviator does tidily beat the XT6 with the second and third rows upright, but you’ll find that it comes at the expense of third-row legroom.
Hands-Free Driving
As automotive manufacturers race to keep up with technological demands, more and more vehicles are being equipped with hands-free driving systems. For instance, the XT6 offers Super Cruise as an available option; this system is compatible with more than 400,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada, giving you the opportunity to take your hands off the wheel and enjoy the road a bit more. It also utilizes a camera to ensure you’re still focused on the road in case you need to take over.
For now, Lincoln doesn’t offer hands-free driving for the Aviator.
Affordability
Another big factor to consider is price—but, more importantly, value. Despite having relatively similar price tags, the XT6 offers more for drivers than the Aviator does; this is evident in the performance details above and when looking at other categories as well.
For instance, the XT6 has an available Night Vision system that detects pedestrians and animals you might not be able to see with just your eyes. You’ll also find an available full-color Head-Up Display that allows you to keep your eyes on the road while peeping relevant drive data, such as turn-by-turn directions. Finally, with certain trims, you can access an Alexa voice assistant from the driver’s seat; this means you can add items to your shopping list on the go, turn on the lights before you get home when using SmartHome devices, and more.
When looking at the Lincoln Aviator, you can find a Head-Up Display in the top-tier trim, but it doesn’t offer Night Vision. Additionally, you can access Alexa by using the Lincoln+Alexa app with the infotainment system.

The 2024 Cadillac XT6’s Luxury trim with front-wheel drive has an MSRP of $48,795, whereas the base Aviator Premiere is $53,340; the mid-tier XT6 Premium Luxury is $54,995, whereas the same-level Aviator Reserve is $59,005; last but not least, the top-tier XT6 Sport is $60,295, compared to the top-tier Aviator Black Label, which is $79,225.[a]
