The History of Cadillac

Cadillac is one of the oldest car makers in the United States, with a history of creating unmatched vehicles in quality, luxury, and engineering. The Cadillac Motor Company launched more than 120 years ago, in 1902. Cadillac was led by a man named Henry Leland, who had previously worked on engines for Ransom Olds. With his factory available for use, Henry Leland began operations for Cadillac out of said factory, eventually merging Cadillac and the Leland and Faulconer factory.

To say Henry Leland played a major role in the development of Cadillac would be an understatement, as it was his enthusiasm for the company that began its forward trajectory. He believed in creating a vehicle that emanated quality, even after the company had been sold. In 1909 Leland sold Cadillac to General Motors, staying on a bit longer to ensure the Cadillac brand was being honored.

Prior to becoming part of GM, Leland had already established some key ideas behind Cadillac. The first Cadillacs were built off Ford’s body designs but used Leland’s engine. What was most notable, however, was that Cadillac was one of the first to create standardized, interchangeable parts. In fact, this system of replacement parts won Cadillac the British Dewar Trophy for automotive innovation. The Dewar Trophy is the Nobel Prize of the automotive industry and recognizes Leland’s achievements.

This would be a precursor for the innovations to come from Cadillac. In fact, Cadillac was awarded the Dewar Trophy a second time in 1912 for fitting an electric self-starter to its Model 30. Cadillac was the first to do this, as well as other pioneering designs, such as the first production car to feature a fully enclosed design and the first production car with a V8.

The firsts continued to roll in for Cadillac, such as being the first carmaker in the world to fit power steering as standard on all of its models. In 1975, Cadillac introduced electronic fuel injection to select models, leading the charge for American manufacturers. Under the leadership and direction of GM, Cadillac continued to be a force within the automotive industry and will continue to do so.

The Luxury and Refinement of Cadillac

When it comes to SUVs, no one does it quite like Cadillac. With a large selection of luxury SUVs to choose from, you may find it difficult to choose your favorite. Ranging from the smaller XT4 all the way up to the well-known Escalade, You know that whichever you choose will be filled with innovative features and luxury styling.

The Cadillac XT4 was introduced in 2019 as Cadillac’s foray into the compact crossover segment. Since then, it has consistently offered luxury trim options, as well as sport trim options. This is great for those who want the ability to spice it up a bit with enhanced suspension for a more energetic ride. All XT4 models come with a zippy turbo, so hemming and hawing over engine choices won’t be an issue. The XT4 offers plenty of interior space with refined appointments and plenty of tech.

For those who need a little bit more room, Cadillac has also done a great job of slipping into the midsize crossover segment. Perhaps one of the most popular segments, the midsize crossover is taking over, and Cadillac is making sure to be there as it does. 2017 marks the first year of the Cadillac XT5. For a smooth and comfortable ride that provides plenty of cargo room and passenger comfort, the XT5 is for you.

Of course, we can’t forget the big daddy of them all, the Cadillac Escalade. Probably one of the better-known Cadillacs, the Escalade exudes power and extravagance. It was first introduced in 1999 and is a full-size SUV on a truck chassis. The Escalade is roomy, with loads of cargo room and plenty of luxuries to boot. The Escalade is a true status symbol and a bit of a show-off in all the best ways.

Cadillac offers more than just SUVs, with a full line-up of sedans and electric options. The CT4-V is a fun and spirited drive perfect for the enthusiast. The V-series provides extra oomph combined with the well-known luxury of Cadillac. The luxury sport sedan segment has serious competition with Cadillac in the running. The CT4-V offers sleek styling paired with gutsy power and handling for pure driving enjoyment.
